Ole Sturm – animator

With a background in fine arts (majoring in sculpture) Ole Sturm has been working in and around film and various computer graphics related industries since 1987. From visual effects in London he moved on to film production, props and set dressing in South Africa and eventually landed in a computer graphics course in Munich.

He then went on to study Softimage in Montreal following which he co-founded Bionic Productions in London in 1996. Bionic (later Bionic Digital) went on to provide the likes of Mission:impossible, The Saint, Daylight, The Jackal, Lost in Space, M:i-2, Behind Enemy Lines and others with playback graphics. The company also designed and produced a number of highly successful marketing campaigns for United International Pictures, to promote films like The Saint, Mercury Rising and The World is Not Enough.

Eventually Ole moved to Los Angeles to set up a subsidiary of Bionic at Raleigh Studios. In 2001, he and his wife (a native Melburnian) moved to Melbourne where Ole worked as a freelance designer, animator and compositor. In 2004 he and Laurence Dodd set up Innit Digital.

Laurence Dodd – animator

Laurence’s background is in graphic design and packaging in which he has a BA. He then moved on to photography which eventually led him to computer graphics and animation. In London he has worked with the likes of The Mill, Framestore, Red and English & Pockett (with whom he worked on a rebrand of Deutsche Welle as well as the UEFA European Cup). His animation skills have also been utilised on a large number of pop promos including acts such as Kylie Minogue and U2. Locally he was worked as an animator on projects as diverse as Superman Returns, Charlotte’s Web, The Ruins, Telstra, Yellowglen and Tattslotto.

Tony Mahony – director

Tony Mahony is a wonderful talent director who started out as a sought after photographer, especially in the music industry. He has gone on to direct and shoot over a hundred music videos (including Nick Cave, Paul Kelly, Kasey Chambers, Angie Hart, The Darling Downs and on and on…) as well as help develop, then direct, ABC programmes Recovery and Long Way to the Top. He then moved on to directing well known branding and retail TVCs.

His short film Ray, with Dylan Lewis in the title role, has won awards around the globe. He also directed the play Shadowboxing with actor Angus Sampson, which became, according to The Age, the hottest ticket in town during its two week run.

He seems to “get” talent, understanding where both actors and creatives are coming from. His working manner is calm and professional. Tony’s experience with casting and directing both actors and nonactors and his profound knowledge of film and music brings enormous latitude and possibilities to his projects, resulting in great work.
