As you cultivate a sense of self-awareness and begin to look honestly at your life you can begin evaluating your natural strengths and your challenges. Mindfulness is a powerful practice for high vibes living, and a great tool for navigating your flow. We all want to avoid those sticky, rigid places of resistance, and slip deeper into the cosmic slow grind where things are so intimate, juicy and expansive.
Working with the characteristics of your Zodiac sign opens another door of holistic potential for authentic living. Pinpoint where your characteristics are exaggerated or diminished. From there you can nurture them back to a state of equilibrium.
Working with stones, crystals and botanicals can enhance your natural magnetism, and refine your energetic story. Wearing different oil blends, and carrying stone talismans can help to integrate these energetic supplements with your aura. Creating gentle, and very profound changes in your life, your mood and your state of being.
Each astrological sign is ruled by one of the four elements. I have detailed a list of attributes based on the four elements and how they relate to their corresponding zodiac sign. This will give you profile of energies, attributes and characteristics that are prominent in your Sun sign.
Evaluate where your strengths are demised or exaggerated based on your sign/element. You can create a custom blended anointing oil by combining one or more of the herbs listed for the element with a base of almond oil. Use to anoint the pulse points, base of the head, and the seven chakras. This will stimulate and balance your energy system, and raise your vibration. Benefiting the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual state.
You can target the attributes of your Sun sing, Moon sign, or any other significant area in your astrological chart. Often fixed signs will have difficulty with diminished qualities that do not naturally express in their sign. Using astrological oils will stimulate these qualities.
You can boost the mystical qualities of these oils by carrying the corresponding stone with you. Keep it close to your body, or tucked under your pillow while you sleep. You can create a whole self-care system by anointing your pulse points, and chakras and then placing your chosen stone in the palms of the hands while doing some breath work and mediation.
I have included a “contrary” element to the list of attributes. This element is opposite the element that will equalize the associated attributes. For example if you are an Earth sign and tend to feel heavy, stuck, and rigid using an Air oil will help you to cultivate a sense of freedom, weightlessness, and movement. You can simply read through the list and decide which qualities you need to cultivate in your personality and create a combination!
Experiment with the process letting yourself be fluid and intuitive! That often yields big results.
The Element of Earth (Roots) Contrary to Air
Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Earth signs are intimately connected to their environment. Enjoying material comforts that they can touch and feel (food, fabrics, warmth, lighting). Working with an energy of growth, strength and fertility they are great at getting things done, though they tend to like repetitive tasks best. They crave comfort, abundance and stability. Making them very protective, verging on defensive. Very tolerant creatures they often promote peace, but at their worst they can be cold, rigid and judgmental.
Earth energies are connected to the root chakra being the energy center of grounding, stability, roots and foundation.
Earth energy botanical enhancers are Patchouli, Cypress, Vetivert, and Geranium Rose.
Earth energy crystal enhancers are Hematite, Jasper, Jade, and Tiger’s Eye.
The Element of Air (Flowers) Contrary to Earth
Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Air signs are very intelligent, perceptive, and eloquent creatures. Wonderful organizers and solution makers they often take an innovative, and liberal perspective. They communicate with ease, and mental clarity, but can become condescending and analytical (though it is really personal). Craving knowledge, freedom, and travel they can sometimes appear aloof or scattered. But they have immense knowledge, wisdom and can pull information out of the air (facts, ideas, memories).
Air energies are connected with the upper chakras: the throat and the third eye, which are the energy centers of communication, self-expression and inner vision/perspective.
Air energy botanical enhancers are Lavender, Peppermint, Sandalwood and Rose.
Air energy crystal enhancers are Citrine, Mica, Turquoise, and Fluorite.
The Element of Fire (Seeds) Contrary to Water
Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Fire signs are tenacious, confident and courageous. They have a powerful and persuasive personality that is both dynamic and, at times, forceful. Fire signs burn with enthusiasm for life often making them the life of the party, and ready for action. But sometimes fire gets the best of them expressing as anger, control and aggression. Motivated and direct they use their will power to achieve their desires and transform circumstance. At times this can make them impatient and rash, lusting for and desiring things that are just out of reach. They set their sights on something and can’t let it go! Fire signs have a streak of egotism, and self-importance that can creep in at any time.
Fire energies are connected to the sacral and solar plexus chakra which is the energy center of sexuality, creativity and personal power.
Fire energy botanical enhancers are Orange, Ginger, Basil, and Cedar wood.
Fire energy crystal enhancers are Carnelian, Sunstone, Red Jasper, and Volcanic Rock.
The Element of Water (Leaves) Contrary to Fire
Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Water Signs have a receptive, intimate and emotional nature. In tune with the subtle worlds around them they tend to be very psychic/intuitive. Embodying many nourishing qualities they usually hold space for people to release, heal and find a sense of peace. Their sensitive nature can be crippling at times causing sleeplessness, nightmares, and instability. Overindulgence can lead them into a martyr mentality that drains and consumes them, and those around them. Water signs know how to move into the deeper realms of the self to cleanse and nourish the spirit.
Water energies are connected to the throat and heart chakra centers of self-expression, love and empathy.
Water energy botanical enhancers are Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, Chamomile and Bergamot.
Water energy crystal enhancers are Amethyst, Selenite, Moonstone, and Celestite.
Mixing Your Own Anointing Oil
Creating anointing oils is one of my favorite pastimes. Be creative and do what feels right for you. If you’re starting off, here are a few tips:
- I typically experiment with one botanical scent at a time to see the effects.
- I use a half ounce amber bottle adding 5-10 drops of the desired oil to the bottle, then topping it off with a good carrier oil such as almond, or olive oil.
- Use two botanicals at a time if you want a more complex scent.
- Always test a small area of your skin to ensure you are not allergic. Be cautious if you are pregnant or have an existing health issue.
Using The Anointing Oils In A Ritual Bath
You can add a few drops of each desired oil to your bath water along with a corresponding crystal. Slipping into a the tub for a restorative spiritual bath. Add some affirmations and creative visualization to help enhance your intention. You can use the list of qualities you are trying to cultivate to write an affirmation. You can repeat this throughout the day if you’d like as part of your daily practice.
I recommend having an astrological chart cast so you can see the planetary influences in your life. Insight from your chart will help you clarify where your strengths and shortcomings are, and how you can overcome them in your life.
