Unfortunately, many women today have health issues related to their reproductive systems.
This is, in a large part, because we have lost our connection to our bodies and to the cycles and phases we go through each month, and beyond. Most of us have all but forgotten the power and sacredness that we hold within.
Yet to re-form the connection to ourselves, and to return to this power and sacredness, is to return to nature. By embodying Her power and sacredness, we will regain our own. This is where herbs and natural medicines can help.
Speaking of natural medicine, ever since being introduced to herbs and essential oils, as supplements to a healthy diet, I’ve been blown away finding out how so many of them are so beneficial for health, especially bringing equilibrium to women during their cycles.

Below are just some of the many herbal allies that exist in nature, as remedies and medicines for treating women’s health issues. Some may be found growing in your garden or in hedgerows. Some may be bought from health stores, in their dried form or even as capsules or supplements.
All will help to bring health, care, and balance, so long as you use them correctly and respect their gifts.
If you’re someone who’s a little doubtful using herbs and herbal remedies for health issues, then consider that most prescription drugs are actually based on plants. However, once made into allopathic medicine, or medicinal products, they lose their natural adaptive power, and ability to work in alignment with the body.
Got a Specific Women’s Health Problem?
If you suffer from problems such as endometriosis, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome or painful periods, or you’re struggling with symptoms pertaining to menopause, many of these herbal medicines are great natural alternatives to prescription medication.
If you suffer from chronic disease, cancers (breast cancer, cervical or ovarian cancer), or another serious illness then many herbal medicines can be excellent as complementary treatments. In this case, please consult a professional herbalist, do not attempt to self-prescribe.
Herbal Medicines and Natural Remedies for Women’s Health
Rose
Rose is mentioned first because it’s one of the most powerful plant allies out there. It’s a herbal remedy that powerfully emits the energy of pure love.
Rose opens and heals the heart, and soothes emotions. So it’s helpful when women feel emotional during particular parts of their cycles. Yet it’s also a highly protective remedy – think of the thorns which ward off potential enemies!
The rose is also the flower of ultimate femininity. It connects us with our womanhood, balance hormones and brings strength and beauty.
Red Clover
Red clover is an amazing herb for the overall health of women. It is mineral-rich and cleansing, plus it’s known to ease symptoms related to low estrogen levels (which is particularly useful during menopause).
Drink a herbal tea infusion regularly to ease pre-menstrual and menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes and joint inflammation.
Red Raspberry Leaf
Often referred to as the ‘uterine tonic‘, raspberry leaf is perhaps the most frequently used herb in women’s health treatments. It can bring benefits to a whole spectrum of issues that women may experience.
This natural miracle herb contains a huge amount of vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins, vitamin C and potassium, magnesium, zinc, phosphorus, and iron.
Drinking raspberry leaf tea helps to tone and cleanse the uterus, it’s a natural way to relieve menstrual cramps and clear stagnant blood in the womb.
Although this herb can help with fertility, it is recommended that you avoid during the beginning of pregnancy, but DO use during the last trimester to aid with labor.
Motherwort
Like rose, this herb is calming and helps with heart-related health issues.
It can help heal our relationships with our mothers. Culpepper said, back in 1653, “It makes women joyful mothers of children”! On both a physical and emotional level, this herb can be a magic plant for the health of women, particularly menopausal women. Herbal supplements of Motherwort can be a huge support during times of hormonal transition such as pre-menstrual, menopausal and perimenopausal phases, easing symptoms by balancing hormone levels.
It also helps with menstrual issues and regulates blood flow, and it’s regularly used to ease endometriosis, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids and depression, and anxiety.
Nettle
This plant makes an excellent herbal tea for women during their menstrual phase.
It is cleansing and full of nutrients and it can be used to soothe a range of health ailments, including skin problems like acne.
