Spring means it’s time to dust off those garden boots, buy some new gloves (we all know your gloves from last year have holes!), and get outside to soak up some long-awaited sunshine. But if you’re Pagan or Wiccan, spring gardening means something else… it means magic, rituals, and connection with the divine.
Working in your garden is one of the best ways to (re)connect with mother Earth. Feeling her life between your fingers, gently sowing and planting new seeds, tending to weeds, pruning, fertilizing, composting, harvesting, and watering regularly…
In fact, the simple act of planting, and tending to, a garden can significantly lower stress levels and bring forth a calming sense of peace and contentment. It’s almost… magical… the way being in nature – surrounded by dirt, flowers, and trees – can bring forth healing into your life.
The very act of planting – taking a seed and bringing forth new life – is magical in and of itself. And because of that, you really don’t need any fancy garden gnomes or wind chimes to feel the magic that a garden provides.
The simple act of digging in the dirt and watching new life sprout, blossom, and grow is enough to make anyone feel more connected to their ancestors, their goddesses, and their roots.
But with that said… you can take the spiritual, magical, and witchy essence of your garden to the next level with a few sacred items, Pagan traditions, and decorations.
Pagan Garden Rituals
1.) Moon Garden
In your garden, you can plant flowers that bloom at night. And what can be more magical than enjoying beautiful, and fragrant, blooms while the moon is up? Your midnight stroll through the garden will feel magical, mystical, and almost… forbidden. Try adding these night bloomers to your sacred garden…
2.) Statue of the goddess
This one is of Flora – The Roman goddess of flowers and the season of spring – but you can opt for whichever goddess you feel most connected to. Each time you see her in your garden, you can use the opportunity to say a prayer of gratitude and thanks.
3.) Fire Bowl
Is there anything more entrancing than watching the flames dance? A fire bowl will add an element of magic to the nights you spend in your garden.
4.) Arbor
Can’t you just picture it now? Beautiful vines growing along the sides and dropping elegantly over the top? Place your altar in the middle and perform your full moon rituals underneath a drapery of blooms.
5.) Gazing Ball
Add a pop of color to your garden, that the sun can reflect upon and glimmer out beautiful reflections.
6.) Meditation Bench
You won’t leave this outdoors permanently. But meditating in the garden is just the calming, peaceful, and magically delicious thing that we could all benefit from time to time.
7.) Wind Chimes
Okay, I know that I called out wind chimes as unnecessary… but you really can’t deny the magical feeling of listening to wind chimes on a breezy day. For an even more magical touch – make one yourself with string and scraps of metal, shells, or glass.
8.) Fountain
Another feeling that’s incredibly magical and calming? Listening to the sound of water trickling down a stream (or in this case, a rock fountain). This one also lights up at night, which will add another element of magic to your sacred space.
9.) 7 Chakra Prayer Flag
Use them to aid in your sacred rituals, meditations, prayers – or simply watch them sway gently in the wind. However you use it, an element of blessings and magic is sure to follow.
10.) Bird House
Relax in your garden and watch the birds came and go. Or build one yourself, making sure to say a prayer to your angels while building it.
